Abstract
Agriculture is the pre-dominant sector of the Indian economy. Even after the green revolution of 1960s, farmers in India have neither proper infrastructure nor government support. More than 3 lakh suicides have been reported since India liberalized, globalised and privatized its economy. In a single day, 46 suicides are reported that means every 30 minutes a suicide is reported. Main cause of farmers ’suicide is indebtedness among other factors. Farmers should be empowered so as to reduce the rate of farmers ’suicide. The solution to the farmer’s plight should be directed towards enabling the farmers to help themselves and sustain on their own.
