Abstract

The family is the primary institution of society where social life of person starts. It. Its form or feature may vary from society to society, but its presence is much needed for a smooth and stable society. The nature of family in India is traditional. Introduction of technology, increase in materialism modernization, urbanization, industrialization, education, migration, women empowerment are some of the major factors which brought changes in this institution. These factors have changed the composition, nature and role of family and family members in the society. Family which was said to be primary institution of society is now playing secondary role in one’s life. Due to above-given factors, family is loosening its social value in Indian society. These changes have many socio-economic and psychological implications in society.
